About Ngaire
Dolphin

I have had many roles throughout my life - as a daughter, sister,
teacher, wife, mother,
librarian, grandmother
and now an author...

From an early age, I was given books for my birthday and Christmas presents like A.A. Milne’s Winnie the Pooh series, Enid Blyton’s Famous Five Series, Rudyard Kipling’s Just So Stories, Johanna Spyri’s Heidi, Kenneth Grahame’s Wind in the Willows and Louisa May Alcott’s Little Women. To this day most of them still grace my bookshelf with many more that have come in my direction.

Reading to me has always been my escape hatch enabling me to switch off from everyday activities and let my mind slip into the situations I was reading about.

Looking back on my teaching days I realise now I was gathering facts and a love of nature for snippets of stories. Often I relayed personal happenings, what my pets were doing, what I had seen in my surroundings and at events.

I have always loved reading and one common thread through my life has been to share that love and encourage others to see that value. Libraries have also featured in my life and now finding my own books in them is the ultimate accolade.

Now I am regularly inspired by my local surroundings including views of Tawharanui Peninsula, Little Barrier and even on a clear day Great Barrier, and out to the mouth of the Mahurangi River. There is also a Girl Shed/Studio just past Coopers Beach, way up north, where I can also escape to contemplate new adventures.

So it is now my chance to weave some enchantment, mystery and surprise for on coming generations.
